The waste today:
Food waste consists of organic waste materials such as fruit and vegetable peelings, meat scraps, dairy products, coffee grounds and other biodegradable food items. This waste stream is particularly common in the food service and hospitality sectors.
The resource tomorrow:
The food waste that we collect is transported to anaerobic digestion plants. At anaerobic digestion plants, 100% of the waste is processed. The food waste is broken down to produce biogas which is used for energy, and digestate, which is used as a nutrient rich soil conditioner in the agricultural industry.
